Recent Events in Nigeria

You will have heard by now some of the extreme issues and difficult problems that are occurring in Nigeria which are making life very difficult for many of its citizens. Added to the extreme violence in the North of the country by militant death-cult Islamists Boko Haram demanding Sharia law for the whole of Nigeria, many problems have now been created all over the country by Good Luck Jonathan and his desperate government's untimely decision to more than double the price of petrol and diesel overnight leaving many people stranded deep in the countryside, having visited their relatives over Christmas and New Year.

Seun Kuti

In a variation on a familiar theme of popular uprisings on the continent of Africa involving high-level corruption affecting the lives of millions, this action by the government was the straw that broke the camel's back and the Nigerian population have finally had enough. The whole country went on strike. Many of Keziah's fans will be aware of some of these issues, aspects of which he has been writing and talking about in his music and interviews over many years.

A married man...

We are pleased to announce that on January 14th 2012 Keziah, and broadcaster, journalist and fashion designer, Hauwa Mukan got married in Lagos with many family and friends in attendance including well-known guests from the Nigerian music art fashion and entertainment scene. All his fans wish Jones and his beautiful bride every happiness, good health and much success.

TUNISIA GIG: 11/11/11

The new interim government of Tunisia - the first of the Afro-Arab countries to successfully caste off the oppressive and tyrannical chains of backward, anti-democratic dictatorships, is planning its own festival as a big 'Thank You' for the people of Tunisia to which Keziah has been especially invited to perform - along with Yossou Ndour and many other famous African artists. It takes place on November 11th 2011 at the - - - - - Stadium, Tunis. It will be a historic event of great magnitude and importance which we will record - and you will be able to listen to and download - here!

SUMMER 'SOLO' TOUR 2011

From April to August 2011 Keziah completed a highly successful World tour enabling him to regroup and re-connect with his fans throughout Europe (Austria, Belgium, Corsica, France and Switzerland) Africa (Algeria) French Caribbean (Guadaloupe, Marie Galante, Martinique, St Barth's and St Martin) and finally, a very special show in Brooklyn, New York USA. Most of the dates were solo shows backed by his friend, sensational Nigerian percussionist, Wura Samba - and at a few shows (Milliau Natural Games near Montpellier, France, Vienna Austria, and in Neuchatel, Switzerland) Keziah reunited again with his original 'Blufunk' brothers, the incomparable bassist Phil 'Soul' Sewell and Richie Stevens, his original drummer. The overused word "legend' doesn't come anywhere near describing these guys, and the sound Keziah makes with them is truly awesome! The trio are thrilled to be playing together again and are planning to repeat the experience throughout 2012 - an outcome that a huge number of Keziah's true fans have been praying for years to happen. So we'll see you in 2012 - yeh? It's gonna be intense!

INCIDENT AT GARE DU NORD, PARIS, June 20th 2011

Keziah has nothing against the French Police per se, but their actions - widely reported in the French media recently, in which the well-known Nigerian was stopped and rudely accosted at Gare du Nord whilst returning from a sell-out concert with his friend Nneka in Koln and witnessed by his manager, was deplorable. Threatened by imminent arrest and incarceration, the event seemed to be almost a 'watershed' moment in the French public's perception of discriminatory policies aimed at the long-suffering minorities living and working in France. Watch this space for further developments as Keziah is now adding his voice to the call for change in particular types of actions and perceptions which help to undermine the relationship between the State and its citizens.
